Reflecting on my childhood, I feel an immense sense of gratitude for the unique way I was raised. My dad took on the challenge of raising me alone from the time I was just a baby. Despite having a lot to handle, he had the unwavering support of my grandparents. They played a significant role in my life, especially during those long summer breaks when school was out. With childcare costs being high, I spent every summer with them, and those days remain some of my fondest memories.
My grandmother was the most creative person I’ve ever known. She had a knack for transforming ordinary items into something extraordinary. Her passion for crafting led her to sell her creations at local craft fairs. She was my muse and the source of my creativity. Every summer, we’d make our way to the craft store to gather supplies. I loved working with foam sheets for their vibrant colors and ease of use. Together, we’d spend hours cutting, gluing, and crafting all sorts of things. Meanwhile, my grandfather was a woodworking maestro. He’d spend countless hours in his workshop, crafting beautiful furniture and decorations. Watching him taught me patience and the importance of attention to detail.
People often comment on how lucky I am to be so creative, but I know it wasn’t just luck. It was the time spent with my grandparents, learning from them, and the love and encouragement they provided. They passed their skills down to me, and I owe it all to them. I can’t imagine how different my life would be without those summers with them.
My childhood was a blend of love, creativity, and hard work. My dad did an incredible job raising me, and my grandparents were instrumental in shaping who I am today. I’m eternally grateful for the time we shared and the lessons they imparted. They are the reason I am who I am, and for that, I’m incredibly thankful.
